The household

A formal private household in Kensington is seeking an experienced Head Housekeeper to take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running, care and presentation of the principal residence.

The home is a well-appointed London property with fine art, antiques, silverware and formal soft furnishings, kept to a consistently high standard. A small household team is already in place. The successful candidate will lead the housekeeping function with quiet authority, sound judgement and genuine care for the property.

The role

This is a senior, hands-on position at the heart of the household. The Head Housekeeper will take overall responsibility for the residence’s daily running, its presentation, and the welfare of its contents — working closely with the household team and managing the practical side of household life with calm efficiency.

The role includes team coordination, supplier and contractor liaison, procurement, inventory and the careful stewardship of fine and valuable contents. It will suit someone who is confident leading others, but equally willing to work practically and hold standards by example.

Key responsibilities

• Overall management and day-to-day running of the principal London residence
• Leading, scheduling and supporting a small household team
• Careful upkeep and specialist care of fine art, antiques, silverware and formal soft furnishings
• Laundry, pressing and wardrobe care for the family where required
• Overseeing household inventory, procurement and supplier relationships
• Liaising with contractors, managing access and checking the quality of completed works
• Preparing the property for family arrivals and formal entertaining

The candidate

You will be an experienced Head Housekeeper, or a senior housekeeper ready for a clear step up, with a strong background in formal private households.

You are confident managing a small team, comfortable maintaining high standards without fuss, and conscientious in the care of fine contents. This position suits someone calm, organised and observant — with the judgement to notice what is needed and the experience to handle it well. You understand that privacy and discretion are simply part of the work, and you bring that understanding as a matter of course.

Essential requirements

• Right to work in the United Kingdom
• Substantial experience in a Head Housekeeper or senior private household housekeeping role
• Demonstrable experience managing or supporting household staff
• Proven experience caring for fine art, antiques, silverware and high-value contents
• Verifiable references from comparable private household positions
• DBS check at the level appropriate to the role, or willingness to undertake one
• A discreet, professional manner and consistently high personal standards

The package

Salary £60,000 – £70,000 gross per annum, depending on experience.

This is a live-out position based in Kensington, with standard annual leave entitlement. The working pattern is Monday to Friday, with occasional flexibility required around the household diary.
